Shoot: Jaimee

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

On Sunday, teamed up with Ally (Makeup) and Jaimee (Model) for a lingerie shoot at Dave’s place. Played around with the 53″ Rotalux some more and also gave Dave’s ringflash a run. Sorry, I didn’t take any pullback shots of light placement/setup this time.

I’d really like it if Elinchrom brough out a grid for the 53″ Rotalux sooner, rather than later. Otherwise might have to look in to the Lighttools grids. Ringflashes are fun but need to keep an eye on the power if you move around too much. Shooting in a bathroom full of steam plays havoc on the 1Ds2′s focusing system, hate to see how the lower model cameras would handle it.

Iron Chef Sydney

Monday, June 7th, 2010

Sunday night, what to do for dinner. How about dining to the food from Iron Chef Chinese Chen Kenichi and Iron Chef French Hiroyuki Sakai at the Hilton. The night started off with Canapes by the Iron Chefs with some sushi by Sushi Samurai in the foyer area.

Then the main doors opened with the beat of Taiko’s (Japanese drums). An intimate dinner it was not, entertaining; yes. A 6 course degustation was to be the culinary delight.

fivefingers

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

On one of my location shoots last year I cut my toe open shooting in a rockpool. I didn’t have shoes on because when I scout for a spot and jump from rock to rock the thongs really made things worse and having sneakers on means I need to take them back off if I was to go in the water.

Well now I have a pair of fivefinger shoes which I can wear to all my beach shoots. Not sure if it’s the real deal but it’s branded as vibram and looks like it’s just a rejected copy from the same factory as there is a bit of glue residue and the rubber joins need to be finished off.

I got mine from DealExtreme.com (direct link to the listing)

Sunday at the studio

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

The Sunday just gone I was at ICF Studio shooting some promo shots for the Dirty Dex crew (group of DJ’s from Syd, Melb, & Adl). We had fun, mucking around piggy backing each other and what not. Simple 2 light setup was used. I’ll leave the background editing up to the flyer promo designer :)

After that I shot Christie who somehow managed to get me out of my comfort zone and shoot non-lingere/bikini LOL. I felt a bit lost but after a few minutes stumbling off the line it was pretty cruisey. Elinchrom Deep Octa boomed overhead camera right. 90x120cm softbox camera left. Using Elinchrom A head with Ranger RX.

Post processing revealed.

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

Jason Cole (aka Mr Mentor) has put up two videos of how he post processes his images. If you shoot glamour you’d be silly not to watch the videos. Maybe even go back over some old photos afterwards eh? :)

Part 1.

Part 2.

EDIT: ok it seems the vids are removed which is ashame. You can find Jason’s other youtube videos here http://www.youtube.com/user/JCPDVD

PocketWizard ControlTL

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

Not often I will talk about a newly announced product but holy shit, this is very interesting announcement from PocketWizard!

Designed for studio strobes (Elinchrom  & AlienBees for now) it brings remote power adjustment to a new level. Once you’ve dialled in your strobes to the receiver it will adjust power when you change camera settings… automatically.

RAFW – Sunday – The Marking

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

Sunday afternoon; the day before RAFW officially kicks off; is when photog’s and camera crew get together for the inaugural “Marking”. It’s where everyone is in a mad trance to politely push and shove each other so you can mark your territory on the riser at the end of the runway for the entire week. If you’re lucky, you might get to see some biff but it was a very conservative year this time.

Spots are marked, cameras packed, batteries charged, lexar pro cards emptied. Time to get some rest for fashion week.

Rosemount Australian Fashion Week – Warmup

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

Rosemount Australian Fashion Week (RAFW) is May3-7 but on April 29th; Birthday Suit; an emerging label, had a show at Opera House. For me this was kind of a “warm-up” to RAFW. It had been awhile since I last shot a runway show. The low riser and cramped space didn’t make it easy, especially since there was no raised runway. Had to try and dodge a few heads here and there.
