Shoot with my Neice

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

So I got my new lights on Friday night and there’s not better way to test them out then with my neice. We tried to put her in a basket but she didn’t like it much and cried so we ended up just sitting her on a blanket instead. We smeared some baby safe chocolate mousse on her face and let her go wild trying to eat the chocolate easter egg. It was a warm day so the egg was really soft already.

Sunday Shoot with Kat

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Shot Katrina Taylor on Sunday. The theme was initially to shoot her in corsets she hadn’t shot in before but we ended up shooting more than that! It was a long day shooting, from 8.30am until 7.30pm.

Weekend report

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

What a weekend, had the workshop on Saturday and we initially ran in to a few hiccups but in the end it all worked out. More tiring than what you’d imagine, talking all the time and walking around.

Over the workshop weekend, we had a Bowens Explorer 1500 head & pack system alongside our usual gear for people to play with. Wow this unit pumps out a serious amount of light. 1500 Joules/wattseconds of power and the pop it gave is music to your ears, just ashame once we took it on location for a workout it only managed a measely 180 pops at 700J before giving up.

Saturday night went for a few drinks but ended up I consumed more than what I initially thought I had…. happens all the time it seems LOL.

Sunday up nice and early to shoot the lovely Katrina, who’s a FHM Top 10 “Girl Next Door.”
If you have a few moments spare, perhaps you can vote for her ;)

Sarah indoors, edited.

Here’s more photos from the shoot with Sarah. Hopefully we’ll get to do that sunset shoot soon. :)

Amy’s experiment

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

So my usual MUA (make up artist) Amy wants to play with her makeup kit and this is what she ended up with. I think I prefer glamour stuff :D

From Beach to Indoors with Sarah

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

Planned for a sunset beach shoot yesterday with Sarah but in the end it was postponed (again) due to the weather. As she already had her makeup and hair done we decided to shoot indoors (Thanks Dave!). Mad scramble to get it together but I think we got there in the end. I’ve put up some images straight off the camera for now.

Glamour Workshop

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Dave from xploit3d.com approached me to do a Glam workshop with him a few months back and after procrastinating… here we are.  Sat 30th, Sun 31st January, 2010. Register at workshop.xploit3d.com.

We delibrately kept the groups small (2 photog’s per group), nothing worse than jostling with 10 other photographers to get the angle you want only to find the model is looking elsewhere being directed by a photographer on the otherside of the room!

Shooting Glamour…. with Jason Cole.

Monday, January 11th, 2010

Got up 7am on a Sunday morning to head down south of Sydney to Woonona where I met Jason Cole. If you’ve ever flicked through the pages of Alpha, FHM, Ralph or Zoo then chances are you’ve seen Jason’s work. We arrived at Michelle’s (makeup artist) place where she had been working on Marta for over 2hrs!!!

We had two shoots on the agenda today, one indoors and one outdoors and the purpose of the shoot was for a magazine submission.First stop we went to Portofino and shotin the bridal room there and thank god they turned the air-con on. After a few hours of friendly slagging between Marta and Michelle, Jason happily shouts out “It’s a wraaaaap!” and hi-5’s were given all round before we proceeded to fill up the Mazda CX-7 to the brim with gear.

Our stomach’s were growling so we took a break and had lunch. Everyone avoiding fastfood except for Marta who went for some healthy KFC chips & nuggets LOL.

Soon after lunch We dropped the girls back at Michelle’s place for new makeup for the next shoot, which is on location out at a farm. Since it’s out on location Jason and I ducked back to his studio and grabbed the Broncolor powerpacks we needed, had a quick tour of his place before heading out to the location. We got there early and slowly unpacked the gear and shortly after the girls arrived and the shoot began.

It was great to get a chance to see how a professional full-time glamour shooter works. I was in awe, broncolors and chimeras. Jason was great, he explained each setup he was using and why. The shoot didn’t end until 9pm so it was quite a long day but the little things learnt here and there were countless and valuable to me and no doubt I will be applying it when I next shoot.

Hopefully we’ll see the fruits of our labour on a newsagent stand near you in a few months time :)

Jason will also be running a pretty comprehensive workshop later this year on shooting glam so contact him to be kept in the loop when things will happen.

Unfortunately I can’t show any photos besides the ones below.
